The Summer Reading Program is Going Strong in 2008

The Summer reading program seems poised to set another participation record this year. We have had excellent attendence at the events and patches are being collected as quickly as we can hand them out.A Bumble-pig puts in an appearence at the Wonders of Wildlife program at Malaga Cove.

The Cactus Eaters: Reading by Author Dan White

Author Dan White regales the audience with stories from his exploits on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). His humorous book details his quest to through-hike the PCT, which stretches the length of California from the Mexican border to the Canadian.
Dan signs a copy of his book for PVLD staff member Kendel.

Jim Jones and the Sunset Syncopators at Miraleste

A large crowd turned out to see Jim Jones and the Sunset Syncopators perform music from the 20's and 30's. Jones accompanied the music with narration, putting the music in its historical context.

Summer Hours at Malaga Cove

Just a reminder that the summer hours at Malaga Cove Library will temporarily change for eight weeks. Starting on July 9th and going until August 27th the hours on WEDNESDAY ONLY will change to 1pm - 9pm. This is in conjunction with the Summer Concert Series put on by the Malaga Cove Business and Professional Association.

Come on by! Enjoy the music and stop in to the library for Summer Reading fun!!

Monday & Tuesday 10-5
Wednesday 1 - 9
Thursday, Friday & Saturday 10-5

Aligator Al's Traveling Reptile Pals at Miraleste


Aligator Al and his reptile pals made a sucessful visit to Miraleste on June 18. Join us for the next Children's Summer reading event at Miraleste.

Come and join the Miraleste Book Club! Meeting are held the 2nd Saturday of every month at 1:00 PM at Miraleste Library. July's meeting will feature a discussion about The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. Books, conversation, food, and friends; it's a great way to spend an afternoon.

Appraisal on the Hill

The Appraisal Event at Malaga Cove.

Bonham and Butterfield's Auction House came to the library to do on-site appraisals and what a great day we had! We learned a lot this first time around and will making some changes for our next event, but overall the whole experience was a fantastic one. Look for B&B to come back again next year!

Libraries Closed On February 11th

The Palos Verdes Library District (PVLD) will close on February 11th for system upgrades and to launches a new PVLD website.

Save time and get more from our new website!

Starting February 12 our website will have new features for your convenience:

  • Make your payments by credit card
  • Having trouble remembering what you have read? Now you have the option to keep a reading history
  • Review and rate books online
  • Receive email updates on your account for holds, overdue notices, and more…including notices of upcoming due dates for items you have checked out
  • Get notified early on upcoming releases before they hit the shelf

Jim Jones came to the Malaga Cove Library and gave a fabulous talk on the Roarin' 20's! A great turnout in the gallery of about 100 people! Another fabulous History Discussion Group event.
